The pumpkin patch

Today four other homeschooling mom's and I took our 15 children (all under age 6) to Matthy's pumpkin patch and petting zoo. We began in the zoo area where the wide-eyed littlest ones got to walk up to the pigs or goats or pony and touch them through the wire fencing around their pens. The older ones watched with that glimmer in their eye that said they had seen this before, yet the grins betrayed their undenyable fascination.

Our tractor quickly pulled up and with a promise that they could come back to the animals and the play area, we got them aboard the trailer filled with sweet hay for the bumpy ride to the corn maze. It is important to note here that Bronwen, my usually fearless tot, would not get on the trailer because she was overcome with a sudden sense of pending doom. I finally got her on and held her close -all the while strapped to a sleeping Baby - she did not warm up to the idea and we had to do it again on the way back.

As we bounced into the clearing, we could see the pumpkins all lined up in neat little rows looking like they had been placed there just for us. But before we could pick any, we had to get to the patch by way of a corn maze. My camera's batteries died just after the maze, however Noah quickly found his pumpkin and brought the trophy back to the tractor while Bronwen found hers and Annabelle's and preferring to stay with the pumpkins, had to be talked back onto the hay ride.

Once back, we let everyone play in the yard filled with giant wooden vehicles (planes, trains and automobiles ;) and check out more of the animals. Noah really took to this Great Pyranese named Max. The dog was almost taller than Noah and he's never seen on so big. Then we went inside for lunch, which I wasn't prepared to stay for - since Josh was working from home I had told him we would be home for lunch. But it's so hard to pull them away from their friends early, especially when food is involved. Thank you moms for sharing your bounty with the Martin clan.

Wonderful Wednesday

Happy 7th Birthday Mason!

Look at this great picture that I came across: My nephew Mason in his mighty warrior gear. I wish he could be here for Noah's birthday party this weekend . . . we're giving Noah a knights party. But Mason's birthday is today and since the boys have birthdays only 6 days apart, they usually cannot go to each others' parties.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mason! I hope you have a wonderful day.

We love you :)

Busy days

I had so much to do yesterday and today. Mondays and Tuesdays are my busiest with Thursday a close second or third. Sometimes it feels like all I do is drive here and there.

On Mondays I have to hurry and pack for the day, get Noah's lessons in and leave by 11 to pick up Madie from pre-school by 11:30. Then it's over to Mom's for lunch and naps and any school that didn't get finished earlier. Then I leave around 2:45 for Granger where I give piano lessons to two sisters. From there I head to Niles where I am giving 3 more piano lessons. I'm usually in such a frazzled state of mind all day and that carries over into Tuesday (which is mom's group at our church from 9:30 - 11:30, pick up Madie at 11:30, Mom's for lunch and naps and then to the library with Noah for lessons.)
But yesterday, I didn't have piano lessons and my Monday was so much more sane! Two of the children had their lessons today. The day was so beautiful and driving to and from Niles, I was feeling relaxed as the wind whipped through my hair and my soul was nourished by the classical music on the radio and my conversations with my Abba Father.
It was a pleasant, soothing time that I deeply needed. Here are some of the scenes I was enjoying as I drove through the Michgan countryside.

What a treat!

Noah, Bronwen and Annabelle enjoyed a special treat from Aunt Jayme. Lovingly hand-delivered by Lori were three giant chocolate covered pretzles. Noah was so surprised to get the delicious treat "all the way from Boston!"

Jayme, he read your note mostly by himself. Mom helped with just a few words

And Bronwen was anxious to enjoy her "Chocolate!" She was trying to smell it through the plastic wrapper.

Noah told me that if I ate Annabelle's, she would get the taste of it later. (What a smart boy.)
Of course I was quick to heed his advise ;)

A Dear Friend

This is my dear friend Serah. She's been on my mind alot lately, and I'm so sorry that I've lost touch with her. The last I knew, she was living with her husband Jon in CA. So I googled her name tonight. And, I found her blog!!! I'm so excited to reconnect with her, so here goes . . .

The Armor of God

Ephesians 6
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

Whoever said . . .

Tidiness is next to Godliness? I guess it is if you don't have children.
This is my dining room table in it's current state . . . I didn't even have to stage this!

Here, thanks to Brittani, is a wonderful rendition of one of my favorite passages in the Bible:

I Corinthians 13 “If I live in a house of spotless beauty and everything in its place,
but have not love, I am a housekeeper, not a homemaker.
If I have time for waxing, polishing and decorative achievements,
but have not love, my children learn cleanliness—not godliness.
Love leaves the dust in search of a child’s laugh;
love smiles at the tiny fingerprints on a newly-cleaned window.
Love wipes away the tears before it wipes up the spilled milk.
Love picks up a child before it picks up the toys.
Love crawls with the baby, walks with the toddler, runs with the child
then stands aside to let the youth walk into adulthood.
Before I became a parent, I took glory in my house of perfection.
Now I glory in the Holy Spirit’s perfection of my child.
As a parent there is much I must teach my child, but the greatest of all is love.”

One more thing

I think I finally got one to work!

Two notes: sorry about the sound effects . . .she was laughing just seconds before, so I was trying to get her going again. And the bouncing really wasn't as violent as it looks on this video ;)

Exhaustion

my tomatoes. they were delicious, but 2 is all we've had. I was anxiously awaiting a big juicy one, but before it ripened, it disappeared and I found it later in the grass with two big bites missing. It must have been a squirrel.

Doesn't she look like she has a secret about me?

Bronwen must really be made of sugar and spice and everything nice because the mosquitoes have been merciless. She woke up Monday morning with bites all over her little face.

Noah plays with Grandma Martha's magnifying glass. My what big eyes you have!

So glamorous! Move over Mae.

Watch out for those sharks in the bathtub.

I've been unable to write lately. Mostly because by the time the kids are in bed, I'm too exhausted to put two sentences together verbally, much less write them. Tonight the computer is free and I have a lot to catch up on, so I thought I would try. So please forgive any sentence fragments, runn-ons, misspellings, grammar infractions etc. I hope you enjoy the pictures of some of the moments of our weeks .

Extra days

We were excited to learn that we get an extra day or two of summer this year. The first day of Autumn is on the 23rd and I think it usually lands on the 21st. Anyway, even though I wouldn't consider it warm enough to run through the cold sprinkler water, Noah insisted it was.

These are pictures of their celebration with Madelyn and Chloe on the last day of Summer. Bronwen preferred to watch from a safe distance.
